MRSEC Eduation and Outreach

The University of Wisconsin's Materials Research Science and Engineering Center on Nanostructured Materials (
MRSEC) was established by the National Science Foundation to carry out research in the formation, characterization, and exploitation of materials at the nanoscale - the scale of individual atoms. Prof. Crone is involved with the education and outreach efforts of UW's MRSEC, which focuses on the development of new instructional materials, production of laboratory manuals, models and kits, as well as outreach presentations, undergraduate research experiences, and collaborations with area high school and middle school teachers.

Crone Honored as ASEE Outstanding Educator

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) selected Associate Professor Wendy Crone, Department of Engineering Physics, as a recipient of its Ferdinand P. Beer and E. Russell J ohnston Jr. Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award. Established in 1992, the award honors early-career individuals who have made exceptional contributions to mechanics education. In addition to her classroom and research activities, Crone is involved with UW-Madison's Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Residential Program and participates in a variety of departmental and college outreach activities. The award was presented by Ferdinand Beer and Russell Johnston at the ASEE annual conference in June 2001.
